Description

This position reports to the Treasurer, based in Boca Raton, Florida.

Summary:

Must have a comprehensive in-depth current knowledge of sales and use tax matters, procedures, and methods. Ability to manage indirect taxes including US sales and use tax, property tax and unclaimed property. Must possess strong organization skills and attention to detail while managing sales and use tax co-source compliance arrangement and supervising staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management of the compliance function for sales and use tax, gross receipts for the US.

  • Maintain and work to improve the sales and use compliance function while coordinating with the outsource provider.

  • Review source data files compiled to prepare the monthly/quarterly filings.

  • Review provider monthly/quarterly results and tax calculations

  • Conduct analysis, identify, and research compliance challenges; consider possible solutions and create recommendations.

  • Provide support as needed in the reconciliation of the sales and use tax accounts.

  • Provide expertise as needed with customer & field support.

  • Compile and review sales/use tax audit documentation and correspond with auditors.

  • Analyze and research identified audit issues.

  • Develop and support tax positions; identify value and assess risk of potential audit appeals and or potential ruling requests.

  • Responsible for remediation of process or system issues identified under audit.

  • Supervision and mentoring of support staff; serve as subject matter expert on sales and use tax matters as well as customer sales tax exemptions.

  • Support as needed for all tax decision matrixes, billing code matters, changes in tax laws across all jurisdictions and incorporating Company trends and initiatives.

  • Ensure all sales tax exemption requests are processed correctly and timely.

  • Provide state and local property tax planning and compliance services in coordination with outsource compliance provider.

  • Assist outsource provider with property tax audits and reviews.

  • Work with business partners to obtain and aggregate items of unclaimed property.

  • Provide records and maintain database for unclaimed property reporting in coordination with outsource compliance provider.

  • Oversee the timing and completion of tax analysists projects and research including planning, assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work.

Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of sales tax and solid accounting fundamentals

  • Experience in managing sales and use tax compliance function

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Proficiency in Vertex tax software and Mastermind billing software a plus

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance

  • CPA, MBA, or CMI preferred

Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience in sales and use tax

  • Experience managing a compliance function and managing a team

  • Large accounting firm or large corporate experience is preferred
